When they started this band they had already been dabbling in music for a few years. Their first release was a compilation called “Technical Choas”, released by Mark Laliberte, a college DJ in Canada in 92”. The full compilation “Mechanics of Deconstruction” featued bands like: Exorcist, Din, Vampire Rodents, STG, Digital Poodle to name a few. This band, Fektion Fekler, was among the above.

Harnessing a sound that utilizes elements of electro, pop, industrial and ambient with an at times quirky sense of addictive rhythm, Fektion Fekler has been pushing the envelope of electronic music for over two decades now. Their sound is danceable, yet, is music that one can dance to as much with the heart as one does with their feet, the sound can not really be categorized at all. There are simply some bands that can only be labeled as themselves and that is one of the rarest honors in this age of often-copycat music.

Brothers John  (vocals) and Robert Bustamante (music/vocals) formed Fektion Fekler in 1989. They have appeared on many compilations including the first of the Elektrauma series. They released a full-length cassette entitled Distressed Tension on SPH Records and an EP called Soul Assassin on Bright Green Records. After many years of hiding out, Fektion Fekler finally reappeared in early ‘96 with more compilation work, and the long-awaited debut CD on Pendragon Records, From Here to Heaven which was released to critical acclaim both domestically and internationally, a CD composed of more than a decade of work.

Fektion Fekler returned in late 1998 with their second album, Kling Klang Bedlam, which traded many of the hardcore industrial dance for more melodic, layered songs detailing love, loss, and in the end hope and energy. From the beautiful ballads like Unconditional Surrender and Maker Make Believe to ultra energetic dance floor fillers like Dowser That Couldn’t Dowse and Limpic, the CD is one of those few with no filler at all. Every song lends itself to one another, making a sonic tapestry of sound with no equal in both emotion and melody. And, unlike a lot of electro and industrial groups put there, they make no sacrifice of the fun and playful elements in their sound.

In 2000 Robert signed with ArtofFact Records and released the lone gem, Moksha A People Undone with new member Sean Whitehead handling the vocal duties A People Undone again flew past its peers wth beautiful melodies, dance floor killers and hard industrial songs would make this an instant classic. After A People Undone Fektion Fekler seemed to have dissappeared from the scene altogether.

In 2004 Fektion Fekler resurfaced as the premier signing to Static Sky Records in the US and Black Flames Records in Europe. It seemed that Fektion Fekler had a pleathra of new material that would again challenge the “industrial scene”.  The resulting albums was Into the Sun, released as  a double CD in Europe and a Single CD in the states. Again, Fektion Fekler was pushing the scene to what an Industrial band could do musically. The album had songs for the industrial purist , dance songs for the club kids and even acoustic songs just to proved their point, their music was not about the machines they used to create it, but about the people  behind it.

2005 saw the debut of their music on a  DVD documentary  about pro-mountain  bike racers from Canada called Battlegrounds. The director previous film works included the music of Skinny Puppy, among other popular industrial bands mainly from Canada. The director obviously knew where to turn to for great music. The documentary included many bands on it, but Fektion Fekler had the most songs on the film...score one for Texas industrial.

In 2006 Fektion Fekler released Immersed Heroics a rarities album with music they had written from 1992 to 1995. It was a limited edition release for the hardcore fans, 100 copies worldwide and of course, sold out in two days. The album's quality and spirit would have you think these songs where written after Into the Sun, it is that good. The album was almost as if Fektion Fekler knew what they were doing right from the get go, no learning curves here. This band was meant to write music, a far cry from what you would expect a bands early years to sound like, these guys sounded pro from the beginning.

In 2008 Fektion Fekler  called it quits and released their last album, Angels of Analog-a retrospective or best of album (available on this site)The album shows cases some of their best work but truly not a good representative of their work as a whole. Fektion Fekler songs seem to sound different from one another. On one hand you can hear classic industrial with gritty vocals then on the next song a pop song with clean clear vocals, then a dance song and yet even ambient to acoustic. This band just pours out with talents (just listen to some of their videos and you will see what I'm talking about).

Now comes Wide Eye'd and Dreaming, the porported new band from Robert Bustamante (music). Though their were hints that Fektion Fekler might return, it's pretty much offical, Fektion Fekler is no more and we will just have to enjoy the catalog of music they left behind. But as anything associated with the Bustamante brothers, you know it will be quality music and original. Thus far the only news about WEAD, is that it will be Robert's main project and John (vocals) has his own band as well. Maybe in the future these two will record again, but for now, expect great things from the pair as individuals.

The sound of Fektion Fekler has always gone ahead of its peers from the get go. Songs for the dance floors, and songs for the heart, Fektion Fekler has something to offer anyone, from Depeche Mode fans to New Wave fans to Industrial fans, and beyond. Their sound is pure addiction and synthcerity!

Fektion Fekler has always pushing the bouindaries of electronic music.  Fektion Fekler is what they are. Following a light. Pure, sincere and full of creativity it’s no wonder Fektion Fekler still remains a respected band in the Industrial genre. Truly and original band from original thinkers for original music.
